Outgoing Meta COO Sheryl Sandberg married businessman Tom Bernthal — and announced their nuptials on Instagram.
The Facebook deputy posted a picture of the newlywed couple on a wooded gravel path with the simple caption “MARRIED,” followed by seven hearts.
Bernthal wrote “After both experiencing loss, @sherylsandberg and I weren’t sure we would ever find love again,” he wrote. “Over the last three years, we’ve merged our lives and blended our families. Our wedding today was a dream come true.”
Party of Seven
The couple’s five children all served as members of the bridal party. Sandberg has two children and Bernthal has three.
Bernthal told PEOPLE that “it is our wedding as the seven of us.”
Sandberg added, “We keep saying, ‘We’re all getting married.'”
Charity over gifts
The couple, through their wedding, started a positive initiative to raise funds for victims of child marriage and poverty.
Instead of bringing gifts, they urged guests to donate to non-profit organizations and they reportedly raised around $10M, too.
Sandberg said that they were making donations themselves but were also “inviting our guests to celebrate with us and try to end child marriage.”
Resignation?
Sandberg announced she plans to leave the company in the fall to focus on her philanthropic work and her family.
