Female empowerment is something we keep pushing for. Breaking glass ceilings is what we try to teach our younger generation. We keep changing how we define ‘pretty’, or beauty for that matter. Every body type, every skin colour, every age, whatever the type of hair you are born with, to accept it, to be grateful and to embrace it.
Yes, this has worked to a great extent. We have witnessed how remarkable toys such as the iconic Barbie have evolved in the last decade or so. We have seen the pageants have changed their criteria and even runway fashion shows are adopting different strategies to show how they accept different body shapes and sizes. Major online shopping website ASOS, for example, uses beautiful women of all sizes, shapes and color. And we at SoNew just love it. Because that’s what beauty is, to be comfortable in your own skin!
Disney’s She Hulk and Titania
Disney’s She Hulk is out and we feel they are trying to prove a point – female empowerment and that girls can do it all! And we are all for it but another female villain? Let me explain this a little better.
Obsession of catfights is a very male thing. And it kind of brings women down, right? That women cannot support women! Women’s jealousy, catty-ness, insecurities… what other way to showcase it than to add a female villain? Whether it’s Hollywood, Music or even in the corporate world, when two females fight, it makes headlines. This is why the Real Housewives franchise keeps renewing their contracts. This is why Selling Sunset keeps growing. And this is why bloggers love feuds such as Katy Perry’s and Taylor Swifts!
Disney Villains
In the recent past we have witnessed the “exception to the rule” Disney productions such as Pocahontas and Frozen. But the classics show the catty nature of women. Of course the fact that every princess gets saved by a man is a whole different point. But we keep showing and promoting the ‘women hating women’ way too much. We keep showing that it’s a not so pretty woman that tries to kill you or push you down or steal your thunder!
So it’s not just another woman that brings one down. But the fact that the villain is an “ugly” woman makes it even worse. Whether it’s Ursula or Ursula’s sister Morgana, we keep showing girls that less (physically) appealing women have a problem with the ‘good looking’ ones. Basically most of these female villains are tall, skinny, pale skinned woman with high arched eyebrows, sharp chins and dark hair or someone who’s obese like the Queen of Hearts (Alice in Wonderland) or Ursula (Little Mermaid).
Let’s see whether SoNew is right about this
Disney princesses and their female villains
1. Sleeping Beauty: Aurora and Maleficent
Maleficent is a tall, skinny, pale green-skinned woman with a narrow face and a prominent chin.
2. Cinderella: Cinderella and Lady Tremaine
Also Anastasia Tremaine, and Drizella Tremaine
Lady Tremaine appears to have aged well, with sharp facial features, including a notably large hooked nose with pronounced creases on both sides. She has gray hair (brown in her youth) worn in a high heart-shaped pompadour, with a small light gray streak in the middle. Her green eyes are fierce and evil-looking.

3. Snow White: Snow White and The Evil Queen (Queen Grimhilde)
The Evil Queen has a unfeeling face and a slender figure. She has pale skin, green eyes, chest-length black hair (as revealed during her transformation into her witch disguise), red lips, brownish-gray eye shadow, pink blush on her cheeks, red fingernails, and seemingly pencilled-on eyebrows.
4. Tangled: Rapunzel and Mother Gothel
Mother Gothel is a tall, slender woman. Her skin is flawless, smooth, and a shade of very pale ivory. She has large gray eyes, and her eyelids have brown eye shadow.
5. Little Mermaid: Ariel and Ursula
Ursula’s physical appearance: she is a morbidly obese octopod, classified as a cecaelia (half human, half octopus). She has light lavender skin, short white hair, and her body, from the waist down, is black with six tentacles dotted by violet suckers. The area around her eyes is a darker shade than the rest of her face.
So are all tall, skinny, pale skin, green eyed, narrow face women villains?
Who matches this criteria?
4. Olga Kurylenko
She found success as an actress for her role as Nika Boronina in the movie adaptation of the video game Hitman (2007), and then rose to fame by playing Bond girl Camille Montes in the 22nd James Bond film, Quantum of Solace (2008).
3. Jessica Lowndes
Jessica Lowndes (; born November 8, 1988) is a Canadian actress and singer-songwriter. She is best known for her roles as Adrianna Tate-Duncan on The CW teen drama series 90210 and for appearing in several Hallmark Channel movies.
2. Kim Smith
Kimberly Katherine “Kim” Smith (born March 3, 1983) is a former American fashion model and actress.
And our number 1 is….
Kate Middleton
She’s a real princess, 5 foot 9 inches tall, 130 pounds (59 kgs) of weight, dark hair and green eyes! So would she really be a Disney Villain?
