They say “When phones were tied to a wire, humans were free”, probably this is true. Even though most of us don’t use the phone for phone calls anymore, mobile devices are used for various things. Chances are that you are reading this online using a cell phone.
So here is our list of 10 best movie phone calls. Some of these movies are vintage but some are fairly new. Hope this list make you want to watch them!
10. Jerry Maguire (1996)
“Show me the money”. Just imaging how this call would have been if they had extra features like video calling on their phones like now?
Rod Tidwell : It’s a very personal, a very important thing. Hell, it’s a family motto. Are you ready, Jerry?
Jerry Maguire : I’m ready.
Rod Tidwell : I wanna make sure you’re ready, brother. Here it is: Show me the money. Oh-ho-ho! SHOW! ME! THE! MONEY! A-ha-ha! Jerry, doesn’t it make you feel good just to say that! Say it with me one time, Jerry.
Jerry Maguire : Show you the money.
Rod Tidwell : Oh, no, no. You can do better than that, Jerry! I want you to say it with you, with meaning, brother! Hey, I got Bob Sugar on the other line; I better hear you he can say it!
Jerry Maguire : Yeah, yeah, no, no, no. Show you the money.
Rod Tidwell : No! Not show you! Show me the money!
9. Phone Booth (2002)
The Caller : Come on, Stu! Don’t you get the game yet?
8. Scream (1996)
If you have ever watched Scary Movie, you know how important this scene is to this movie! Modern days, this conversation would never take place. First of all, no one would engage a conversation with a complete stranger and continue to have the awkward conversation Drew Barrymore continues to have!
Phone Voice : What’s that noise?
Casey : Popcorn!
Phone Voice : You’re making popcorn?
Casey : Uh huh.
Phone Voice : I only eat popcorn at the movies.
Casey : Well, I’m getting ready to watch a video.
Phone Voice : Really, what?
Casey : Oh, just some scary movie.
Phone Voice : Do you like scary movies?
Casey : Uh huh.
Phone Voice : What’s your favourite scary movie?
Casey : I dunno.
Phone Voice : You have to have a favourite, what comes to mind?
7. When a Stranger Calls (2006)
If you liked the movie Scream, this was also a must watch back then. You would also wonder why such a fancily built house utterly lacked the level of security features a ‘high-end’ home would normally have! Oh well…
6. Ransom (1996)
Mel Gibson as Tom Mullen.
Tom Mullen : I don’t get my son back, and I mean real soon, you better kill yourself, because when I catch up with you, I’m gonna take my goddamn time. By the time we’re finished, you’re gonna wish you weren’t born! I’ll have your head on a f***g pike, do you understand me?
Detective Jimmy Shaker : F**k you! I’ll fucking kill him right now!
Kate Mullen : I want to talk.
Tom Mullen : You kill him, you kill yourself, you motherf**ker! GIVE ME BACK MY SON!
5. Tropic Thunder (2008)
This movie has a bit of everything. Adventure, action, fun- you name it! And did we mention the cast! This movie’s got an incredible line of actors. Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr. , Tom Cruise, Jack Black, Anthony Ruivivar, Brandon T Jackson, Jay Baruchel, Bill Hader, Amy Stiller, Jeff Kahn, Nick Nolte and the list goes on!
Les Grossman : First, take a big step back… and literally, F*CK YOUR OWN FACE! I don’t know what kind of pan-pacific bullshit power play you’re trying to pull here, but Asia Jack is my territory. So whatever you’re thinking, you’d better think again! Otherwise I’m gonna have to head down there and I will rain down an un-Godly f*cking firestorm upon you! You’re gonna have to call the f*cking United Nations and get a fucking binding resolution to keep me from fucking destroying you. I’m talking scorched earth, motherf*cker! I will massacre you! I WILL F*CK YOU UP!
4. Heat (1995)
Starring Al Pacino, Robert De Niro and Val Kilmer, this movie is a must watch!
McCauley calls Van Zant on the phone
Roger Van Zant : What are you doing?
Neil McCauley : What am I doing? I’m talking to an empty telephone.
Roger Van Zant : I don’t understand.
Neil McCauley : ‘Cause there is a dead man on the other end of this f*ckin’ line
3. Dial M for Murder (1954)
In this Alfred Hitchcock’s classic, it wasn’t the content of the call that mattered, but the act of answering. Before cell phones took over, landlines dictated that phone calls be answered from a very specific spot, which allowed for Hitchcock’s inventiveness to take over.
2. Swingers (1996)
“I just got out of a six-year relationship…”
Miramax Films The first time Nikki’s machine cuts Mike (Jon Favreau) off mid-message creates an easy moment to relate to. The second time, the return call is amusing in its awkwardness. But as the machine continually interrupts him, things become painfully uncomfortable for the viewer. There aren’t many moments in film that make me feel so helpless as a spectator.
1. Anchorman (2004)
“Glass case of emotions”
“Let me say something, let me say something…”
This is our favorite movie phone conversation of all! Do we even have payphone booths anymore?
